Radio Remote Controls with Electronic Dead Man’s Handle
The use of dead man’s handles to increase safety for one-man operations or while operating dangerous machines has been for many decades, due to legal guidelines, common practice in companies. Cattron-Theimeg Europe (CTE) offers its customers considerable improvement in safety for employees in hazard areas whilst operating cranes and machines with radio remote controls fitted with a dead man’s handle.
This prevents the unintentional use of the joystick, which can cause unwanted movement of cranes or machines. The operator has to release the joystick by putting it back to the neutral position before giving the ultimate command. Without this release the joystick will not react and no commands will be conveyed from transmitter to receiver. After the release, the joystick remains active until it returns to the neutral position and remains there for set amount of time.
This feature can be set for a drive, a joystick or even two joysticks. The active/inactive status of the joystick is indicated by a LED on the transmitter.
The operating principle „electronic dead man’s handle“ is a feature of all radio remote controls with joysticks. The models TC200 and TH-EC/40 are in terms of functionality and durability, established products in the material handling segment. A completely new product by CTE is the transmitter LRC-M1 equipped with state-of-the-art TransKey technology, which is fitted with 2 joysticks and up to 10 operating devices.
Besides radio remote controls with additional dead man’s handles or capacity release function, customers can, as of now, opt for the electronic dead man’s handle. Also retrofitting of existing radio remote controls is possible and can be carried out according to customers' specifications.
